Call of the Wild - A Book Review

Updated: Nov 28, 2019

As part of my blog I hope to share book or product reviews that are " on theme". Here is my first effort.

I am a big fan of anything in the survival or primitive living genre - Survivorman, Alone, The Last Alaskans and Dual Survival are all must watch TV. I am not sure why I certainly don't practice any form of bushcraft and I would not survive for long without the comforts of home.

Call of the Wild by Guy Grieve tells the story of a guy who is being ground down by regular life. Guy decides that to save himself and his family he must spend a winter in the Alaskan Interior in a cabin.

I loved this book and I think I finished it in less than 3 days. IMO Guy is a great story teller flipping from entertaining to educating with ease. He manages to convey both the fearsome nature of life in Alaska while capturing the beauty and spirit of the land. Along the way Guy meets a variety of Alaskan's and showcases the uniqueness and generosity of the people he meets on his journey.

If you are like me and find yourself glued to the 8 hour Alone marathon on the History channel I would highly recommend this book.

The book is available anywhere but here is a link to amazon Call of the Wild Guy Grieve
